{"id":522,"date":"2020-09-29T03:23:30","date_gmt":"2020-09-29T03:23:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spktechfit.com\/?p=522"},"modified":"2020-09-29T03:23:30","modified_gmt":"2020-09-29T03:23:30","slug":"5-4-14-hop-count-exceeded-possible-mail-loop-attr34","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spktechfit.com\/?p=522","title":{"rendered":"5.4.14 Hop count exceeded &#8211; possible mail loop ATTR34"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Issue:<\/h3>\n<p>We recently configured our Exchange Hybrid setup and were experiencing this error when sending mail from our mailboxes migrated to Exchange Online to the mailboxes still on Premise that had the alias:<br \/>\n@ourdomain.mail.onmicrosoft.com (On Premise Mailboxes had this alias setup in preparation for migrating to Exchange Online).<\/p>\n<h3>Cause:<\/h3>\n<p>We use Mimecast for our email filtering. The mail loop was being caused by the mail bouncing back and forth between O365 and Mimecast:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-523 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spktechfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/MailLoop.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"405\" height=\"282\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Exchange Online outbound connector for\u00a0 &#8220;Office 365 to On Premise&#8221; had our domains FQDN as the routing Smart Host. But it was looking up the MX records for our domain and sending the mail to Mimecast instead of our On Premise server.
